Lower State Street in Santa Barbara is getting a new steakhouse this summer.
Rare Society plans to open a restaurant at 214 State St., the former site of Union Ale.
“We’re headed to Santa Barbara,” Rare Society’s website states.
The company has other locations in Solana Beach and University Heights in the San Diego area.
According to the company’s website, the restaurant “pays homage to the infamous retro steakhouses that once laid claim to the Las Vegas Strip.”
“Inside the space, white marble, tufted leather booths and a gold-paneled ceiling invoke the lore of Rat Pack gatherings and raucous Sinatra dinner parties, while the outdoor bar and covered patio offer a decidedly lighter atmosphere for beach-going crowds looking for a lively bar scene,” the website states.
The restaurant includes an open flame inside the exhibition kitchen, cuts of dry-aged ribeyes, American wagyu and classic filet mignon.
The company is hiring. Email careers@raresociety.com.
Hummus Republic Humming Along
A new healthy option for food has opened in Isla Vista.
Hummus Republic opened at 6546 Pardall Road last week.
“Opening week was a success,” the company posted on Instagram. “We had an awesome time serving each of you and meeting this wonderful community. We were blown away by your support and enthusiasm for fresh Mediterranean food.”
The menu features Mediterranean food, including pitas, wraps, bowls and a variety of vegan, vegetarian and chicken options. Meals include a base made of kale, couscous, spinach, garbanzo beans or salad, combined with a flavor of hummus and a protein. There’s also a vegan earth burger made of a falafel. Desserts include a variety of cookies, brownies and marshmallow treats.
New See’s Candy Headed to Goleta
And then there were three.
San Francisco-based See’s Candies is coming to Goleta’s Camino Real Marketplace, according to Susan Portman, senior manager of public relations, events and communications.
See’s did not confirm the exact address, but said the grand opening is “soon.”
See’s has two other locations on the South Coast, one in Paseo Nuevo mall and the other in La Cumbre Plaza.
A fourth seasonal shop opened a few years ago for Christmas on Calle Real, but the new shop is expected to be a full-service, year-round chocolate store.
New Paws Blonde Ale
Draughtsmen Aleworks has released a new beer that benefits Santa Barbara Humane.
The limited-edition Paws Blonde Ale features a photo of Bear, a Boxer mix at Santa Barbara Humane. Proceeds from each tap pour and from each canned four-pack are donated to help more animals in need, according to a press release.
The special release capped the Santa Barbara microbrewery’s spring fundraising campaign that raised awareness and funds to support affordable and accessible services for thousands of community-owned and homeless dogs and cats countywide.
The Paws Blond Ale is available at its two taprooms in Goleta and Santa Barbara.
“Community members are encouraged to enjoy a pint and pick up a four-pack at both Draughtsmen taprooms before the one-of-a-kind ale sells out,” according to a news release.
