Lobero LIVE presents An Evening with The Robert Cray Band on Saturday, July 29, at 7:30 p.m. Five-time Grammy Award-winner Robert Cray is one of the most commercially and critically successful blues artists of his generation. Over the past four decades, the Blues Hall of Famer has created a sound that rises from American roots, blues, soul, and R&B, and arrives today both fresh and familiar. The Robert Cray Band features Cray (guitar/vocals), Richard Cousins (bass), Dover Weinberg (keyboards), and Les Falconer (drums).
“Robert Cray is not only making music, he’s making history.” – Guitar Player Magazine
The band has recorded 20 acclaimed studio and live albums, playing concert halls, festivals, and arenas around the world. Their latest album, That’s What I Heard, was released in February 2020. The GRAMMY® nominated LP, produced by longtime collaborator, Steve Jordan, celebrates the music of Curtis Mayfield, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Sensational Nightingales and more, alongside Cray’s own songs. The Associated Press wrote “Robert Cray and Steve Jordan continue their fruitful partnership on That’s What I Heard, a collection where the guitarist and singer’s original songs blend seamlessly with a strong set of less-than-famous covers.”
Cray and Jordan go way back, having met during the making of the Chuck Berry documentary Hail! Hail! Rock ’n’ Roll, in 1987. They started working together in 1999, when Jordan produced the GRAMMY® winning Take Your Shoes Off, and the recent GRAMMY® nominated LP, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm. That’s What I Heard is their sixth album. Cray, who started The Robert Cray Band in 1974, has been touring ever since, sometimes with 120 performances a year. When you hear a musician like Cray, you enter his world. His voice is haunting, heart-felt, and resonant – a sound that echoes inside.
