The Santa Barbara Gay Men’s Chorus’ upcoming show “BroadGay” is a celebration of musical theater, taking place at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20 at First United Methodist Church, 305 E. Anapamu St.
“BroadGay” will feature show-stopping performances, uplifting melodies, and heartwarming stories. From beloved classics to contemporary hits, the repertoire will showcase the diversity and vibrancy of the LGBTQ+ community’s contributions to the world of musical theater.
“When I accepted my position as artistic director in 2022, I knew immediately that I would lean heavily into the world of musical theater,” said Timothy Accurso, of the Santa Barbara Gay Men’s Chorus.
“Each concert has had sprinkles of show tunes, but this spring gave me the chance to program the all-Broadway concert I’ve been dreaming of,” he said.
“Although it seems cliché, musical theater does hold a powerful place of pride and passion for a lot of the LGBTQ+ community,” Accurso said. “The drama, humor, heart and spectacle of Broadway shows inspires and exhilarates audiences all over the globe.
“I wanted to program a concert that captures a wide range of musical theater and give us all an evening to revel in our shared love and stories from the stage. So let out your inner diva and tread the boards with us in ‘BroadGay.’”
Tickets for “BroadGay” can be purchased in advance for $20 online here, or at the door for $30 if still available.
