As we prepare to participate in perhaps the most bizarre presidential election in the nearly 250-year history of this great nation’s existence, I can’t resist sharing my thoughts on all that appears to be out of sync so far.

You may not agree with my observations, and that’s OK here in America.

Teleprompters and testimonials lack substance. This essay will quickly gravitate from where we presently are to where I believe we need to be once again.

Our political system is certainly not perfect, but over the past two centuries, many consider it the most respected and honorable way to elect government leaders.

When a political party determines who their presidential candidate will be without allowing the members of their party to select the person through a primary election, we’re sadly negating the democratic process.

It’s almost like selecting a king or queen (in this case) without giving the people a voice at all in the process. It reminds me of the biblical account in selecting Israel’s first king.

Following 400 years of intermittent success and failure in the Book of Judges, we can read how the people of Israel deeply desired a king to lead them like the surrounding nations.

In 1 Samuel, you can read the whole account of the coronation process in chapters 9 and 10.

In essence, the Israelites had no desire to serve God. They preferred to follow the rule of a fellow human being.

So, God finally gave them their desire: a kingly looking fellow from the Tribe of Benjamin.

Saul would have looked good in front of a teleprompter and there would have been testimonials galore promoting him as the future leader of these proverbial lost sheep.

The youngest of seven sons of Jesse from the Tribe of Judah would never have a chance in an election against Saul!

God Almighty gave the people what they wanted. In time, many came to realize David was a superior choice — a man after God’s own heart.

King David was a man of substance and a worthy leader of his people in God’s perfect timing. For the past four years, we’ve been tested and I believe God will bring us out of this pit into which we’ve unfortunately slipped.

Let me share some salient words from King Solomon, King David’s son, from Proverbs 13.

In verses 9 and 10 we read, “The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.”

Solomon continues in verses 13 and 14, “He who scorns instruction pays for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded. The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.”

Hopefully, many will see the proven policies presented that can certainly pull us out of this ditch of despair felt by most of us.

We don’t need platitudes. We need the substance that’s found in God’s Word!

And, we need a president and Congress open to prayerfully considering the will of God in running this nation moving forward.
