Wrestling is a popular sport that teaches kids physical and mental skillsets and teamwork. It is a physically demanding sport that is highly regarded and respected.

The Santa Barbara and Goleta area has a new association/collaboration that provides youngsters from elementary school age through high school with the opportunity to get involved thanks to a true master of the sport as well as a good gentleman.

His name is Coach Kenny Breaux (pronounced Bro). He founded Goleta Wrestling Academy (GWA) some years ago and has been teaching kids good lessons of sports and turning out wrestling champions. Even kids who don’t care to go all the way to become champions benefit greatly from the training and competition and friendships formed.

One example is Shaun Vague, who wrestles under the moniker Junebug. While studying with Coach Kenny, and wrestling on the Dos Pueblos team with Coach Mat Bernard, Junebug became a two-time undefeated league champion and is now attending Simpson University on a scholarship. Good things can come from wrestling.

Kenny has an impressive set of credentials. In high school he was a two-time CIF qualifier, CIF Champ, placed 6th in Masters, and was a state qualifier. In college he was the undefeated state champ, ranked all-American, placed in super region and was a national qualifier.

Having founded and run GWA, and having worked with various high school coaches and having served as a high school wrestling coach himself, Kenny Breaux is great with young kids and with high schoolers. He teaches them to have a competitive spirit, as well as great wrestling and life skills. He’s also excellent at helping high schoolers achieve successes that can get their name on the wrestling luminaries board in the Dos Pueblos Wrestling Room.

Now comes big news that parents throughout the Santa Barbara/Goleta area can get excited about. GWA will be leading the Dos Pueblos Youth Wrestling Club. This means that Kenny and the youngsters he coaches have access to the wrestling room at Dos Pueblos High School.

Parents throughout Santa Barbara and Goleta area (from any school district) can get their kids into a well-recognized and competitive sport where they will learn important lessons that will benefit them throughout their lives and can possibly result in a scholarship as it did for Junebug. Think about signing up your kids with GWA.

Ages can be elementary through high school, and kids can be from anywhere. The younger kids start, the more they can benefit. Contact Coach Kenny at goletawrestlingacademy@gmail.com.
