Out of the Box Theatre Company presents “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812,” April 4-13 at Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara.

The 12 time-Tony nominated musical delivers a contemporary and moving take on Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” with its audacious storytelling and groundbreaking score that mixes Russian folk and classical music with indie rock, electronica, and organ-influenced cadences, according to Out of the Box.

“Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812” is the winner of two Tony Awards, three Lucille Lortel Awards, the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Musical, a Special Obie Citation, and the Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater.

“Lovers are betrayed, society is scandalized, and glasses are raised in Dave Malloy’s electro-pop opera as the impulsive and romantic Natasha Rostova arrives in Moscow to await the return of her fiancé from the front line,” the theater company said. “When she falls under the spell of the city’s most charming rogue, it is up to the disillusioned Pierre, a family friend, to pick up the pieces of her shattered reputation.”

Out of the Box will be transforming Center Stage Theater into an immersive Russian supper club where VIP onstage table seating can enjoy Russian dumplings, borscht shooters, and shots of Haymaker’s Vodka as actors move throughout the space and occasionally share their tables.

Tickets are available through the Center Stage Theater box office
