July is Parks and Recreation Month, and the city of Goleta invite community members to join in embracing this year’s theme Build Together, Play Together.

To learn about free or low-cost activities throughout the month, and to sign up, visit the July is Parks and Recreation Month webpage for the calendar of events, and email lmendoza-diaz@cityofgoleta.org.

The city has also created a coloring book for school-age children, available starting July 1 at Goleta City Hall, 130 Cremona Ave.; Goleta Community Center, 5679 Hollister Ave.; or downloaded on the city’s website.

List your name, age, email, phone number and the day for which you are registering.

Space is limited for the pickleball clinics, so the city advises early registration.

For Silent Disco (ages 6-12), registration is required and can be done by visiting the Goleta Valley Library website.

For other activities participants simply need to show up.

July has been recognized as Parks and Recreation Month in the U.S. since 1985 to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation, the city said.

This year’s theme Build Together, Play Together recognizes the contributions of more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — who maintain the country’s close-to-home parks.

The Goleta City Council recognized Parks and Recreation Month with a proclamation at its June 17 meeting.

Community members can share their favorite park moments on social media by tagging @cityofgoleta! Use the hashtag #GoletaParksAndRec when posting pictures.
