The Lompoc Public Library invites community members of all ages to get creative this fall by entering its Book Character Pumpkin Contest.

The festive competition challenges participants to decorate a real or fake pumpkin or gourd in a way that represents their favorite book character.

Participants are encouraged to use any non-food accessories and can paint, glue and craft materials to bring beloved literary characters to life.

Participants should drop their decorated gourds off at the Lompoc Public Library to display for public voting.

Pumpkin drop-off is Oct. 13-18 at the Lompoc Public Library. Voting will take place Oct 20-25 in person at the library and the winner will be announced on Oct. 27.

The first-place winner will receive a prize and certificate, plus bragging rights for the most bookish pumpkin in town.
