The Teacher Education Program at UC Santa Barbara is accepting applications for the 2026-27 academic year, and those who apply by Jan. 15 can earn a teaching credential and master’s degree in just one year.
By Fall 2027, teachers will be prepared to teach on day one in their own classrooms, according to UCSB.
The Teacher Education Program (TEP) at the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education believes public education has the power to shape a more equitable future for all learners and is committed to preparing creative teacher leaders.
The rigorous, 12-month master’s degree plus teaching credential program offers credentials in Elementary Education, Secondary Education (specializing in English, history, math, science, or world languages Spanish), and Special Education (specializing in mild to moderate or extensive support needs).
The program is structured to focus on developing constructive relationships, immersing grad students in a full year of supported student teaching, and integrating coursework with fieldwork to put theory into practice.
TEP students combine curiosity, passion, and critical reflection about people and learning to grow into a teacher leader who strives to improve the educational system, the school said.
The following types of candidates are encouraged to apply:
• Enthusiastic about educating, curious about people and learning, and passionate about serving young populations
• Collaborate to gain new perspectives and better results
• Understand that knowledge comes in many forms and lives in diverse communities
• Expect excellence from all students and support them in achieving it
• Reflect critically on personal experiences and are willing to challenge personal assumptions
• Believe public education has the power to shape the future
• Want to enact change by becoming a teacher leader
