Because the holidays can bring unique challenges for caregivers and families of individuals with dementia, Westmont of Santa Barbara will host a free community program on Navigating the Holidays When Your Loved One Has Alzheimer’s, 10-11:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at 190 Via Jero, Goleta.
The event will feature Jennifer Blood, an Alzheimer’s educator and advocate who will provide families with practical strategies, emotional guidance, and insight for managing the holiday season while caring for a loved one living with Alzheimer’s disease.
The session will address how to create meaningful, stress-reduced celebrations; communicate effectively with friends and relatives; manage changing behavior needs; and preserve comfort, safety and connection for those with cognitive impairment.
“We know families feel both excitement and pressure during the holidays,” Westmont of Santa Barbara said. “Our goal is to support them with compassionate, evidence-based tools so they can focus on what matters most – connection, understanding, and celebrating in ways that honor their loved one’s abilities.”
Light refreshments will be provided at the event. Seating is limited, and early registration is encouraged. RSVP to 805-315-1566.
