The city of Santa Maria and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce are partnering to highlight different businesses in the city through a Businesses of the Quarter Program.

On four occasions this calendar year, the program recognizes local businesses chosen by the chamber. The criteria are: about 20 employees; in operation for at least five years; physically located within the Santa Maria city limits; and being a local Chamber of Commerce member in good standing.
The recognition gives the selected businesses customer exposure and reminds the community of the unique, diverse, and long-standing businesses that call Santa Maria home.
The businesses for the fourth quarter, October-December 2025 are:
JB Dewar, 2310 S. Meredith Lane. JB Dewar, a family-run, Central Coast-based fuel distributor serving Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, traces its roots to 1933.

The company has grown from a single fueling station to a large operation with 60 employees, including 14 in Santa Maria.
It has a specialized delivery fleet; storage for more than 400,000 gallons of fuel; and supplies a comprehensive range of products, including diesel, gasoline, renewable diesel, lubricants, and related technical services such as fuel delivery, oil analysis, and tank installation.
The company’s commitment extends to the community through its Tractor Restoration Education Program, which has mentored high school students since 2002, awarding over $150,000 in scholarships.
La Tradicional Ice Cream Shop, 1131 W. Main St. A family-owned business in Santa Maria, La Tradicional Ice Cream Shop recently opened small space at Vandenberg Space Force Base. Founded in 2008, the business employs 10 people.
The shop is inspired by crafting authentic Mexican ice cream, paletas (popsicles), and Mexican snacks. All products are made from scratch with quality ingredients, blending traditional recipes with modern flavors and presentations.
The business collaborates with the Boys & Girls Club, has sponsors the Mini Rodeo, and supports local events.
Looking ahead, a long-term goal of the family is to establish a scholarship at Allan Hancock College to support local students.
