The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum invites community members to Love Boat: Sailing to Alaska, a land-based gala, 5 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Cabrillo Pavilion, 1118 E. Cabrillo Blvd., Santa Barbara.

The annual fundraiser draws inspiration from the elegance of an Alaskan cruise, but the event itself takes place on solid ground, in a beachfront venue.

The cruise theme suggests semi-formal attire — think Captain’s Dinner.

The evening will feature a tribute to ocean explorer and environmentalist Jean‑Michel Cousteau — an evening maritime celebration, and support for SBMM.
There will be live and online auctions featuring unique experiences and coastal getaways.

Cousteau is a renowned French ocean explorer, environmentalist, educator, and film producer who has dedicated his life to protecting the world’s oceans.

Born in Toulon, France, in 1938, he began diving at age seven and later founded the nonprofit Ocean Futures Society to advance marine conservation and education globally.

Through his media work, expeditions and public outreach, Cousteau spotlights the interconnectedness of people and the sea, inspiring stewardship and protecting marine ecosystems for future generations.

“Our annual gala is more than a great party, it’s a vital source of support for SBMM’s programs that inspire curiosity, conservation, and community,” said Alex Weinstein, SBMM Board president. “As we set sail toward Alaska this year, we invite our friends and supporters to help chart a course for the museum’s future.”

“Every ticket sold, every sponsor, every paddle raised will help us as we continue to reach thousands of students across Santa Barbara County, and beyond,” said Greg Gorga, SBMM executive director.

Sponsorship packages are now available. Sponsors secure premium seating, and receive VIP recognition, and exclusive perks while supporting the museum’s mission.
