Jazz at the Lobero presents Madeleine Peyroux – We Are America: American Songs That Give Us Hope, with special guest Jon Muq, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 at the Lobero Theatre.

In 2026, Peyroux embarked on the We Are America tour, engaging with audiences from Tucson to Quebec, Boise to New York.

“My music and these performances are part of a dialogue, a candid, ongoing conversation with a loyal community brought together by the power of music,” she said.

Marking the 10th Anniversary of Secular Hymns’ release, the tour reunites Peyroux with her longtime collaborators, bassist Barak Mori and guitarist Jon Herington. The trio recorded classic tunes by Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe in 2016, and carried the worldwide tour that followed.

Ten years on, the ensemble will set the scene for Peyroux to bring audiences a mix of originals and covers, old and new, but entirely American, from Allen Toussaint, Judy Collins, Bessie Smith and Bob Dylan, to Peyroux’s own originals, delivered in her distinctive style.

It has also been 30 years since the release of the breakthrough album “Dreamland,” the recording that shifted teen busker Peyroux from the streets of Paris to the world’s grandest concert halls, organizers said.

Peyroux has recorded nine albums, certified gold and platinum in several countries around the world.

“She bravely explores new ground and transcends genres while keeping a solid jazz base, all while increasingly writing her own material. Her latest album ‘Let’s Walk’ (2024), comprises all new material co-penned with Jon Herington,” according to Jazz at the Lobero.

Currently a professor at The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, bassist Mori has played with Benny Green, Eric Reed, Kenny Washington, Jim Rotondi, Peter Cincotti, Marcus Printup and Avishai Cohen.

Herington has recorded and performed with Steely Dan since 1999, Donald Fagen, Walter Becker, Bette Midler and Bobby Caldwell. He is the co-writer and co-producer of Peyroux’s 2024 “Let’s Walk” album.

Singer-songwriter Jon Muq was born in Uganda and now lives in Austin, Texas.

“Music is part of a larger conversation he’s having with the world and everybody in it,” Jazz at the Lobero organizers said. “Drawing from African as well as western musical trends and traditions, he devises songs as small gifts, designed to settle into everyday life and provoke reflection and resilience.”

With his debut album Flying Away with producer Dan Auerbach and tours with Billy Joel, Norah Jones, Mavis Staples, Amythyst Kiah, and Corinne Bailey Rae, Muq continues to expand the scope of his music.
