For more than 20 years I’ve been praying my personal version of The Prayer of Jabez every morning as I awake for the day at hand.

It’s not a selfish prayer, but one to let my Lord know I’m here for the long haul to serve Him through the gifts He has so kindly bestowed upon me.

Bruce Wilkinson’s best-selling book, The Prayer of Jabez, has certainly blessed thousands and thousands of believers over the past 25 years since first being published in 2001.

This reader for one has been greatly impacted, simply by being exposed to those two verses found in 1 Chronicles 4.

As a Christian businessman I understand market share. But these days, I have no desire to expand my borders any more than God wills for my life.

After all, my desire is to simply serve Him as best I can in these latter days. I have no idea how much time remains, but He certainly does and I trust the Holy Spirit will guide me through whatever He has planned.

I know He will bless me beyond my expectations. This has not been the way I’ve always addressed my life. Like many, my ambitions were quite selfish.

In 1984 my life dramatically changed after portraying Christ in an Easter musical. For the first time I realized that my Lord had a plan for me.

Gradually, He’s continued to mold me into one of His many servants. He’s challenged me in ways I could never have fathomed in my past life.

First writing poetry and in time prose to honor Him has become a passionate purpose. Writing these essays in Noozhawk has been a significant part of my journey for more than 10 years now.

So, what are you doing about expanding the borders God has placed around you? Are they expanding or perhaps contracting?

Our Lord has a distinct purpose for each of us. We’re all given one or more gifts, and I’m certain He has no desire to see us squander those gifts bestowed.

All I know is this: Like every good father He wants to see His children grow and serve Him during our short time here on this planet.

If we truly love Him, we should show Him that we are available to grow in our relationship with others who have yet to find their way out of the maze of this world.

You need to ask Him (Yes, pray to your Heavenly Father) to show you just how He wants you to serve Him this day forward. He has a wonderful plan laid out for the remainder of your life, if you will just accept it!
