Detectives twice deployed stun guns while arresting a man who threatened someone with a knife earlier Friday in Santa Maria.
At 5:16 p.m., officers with the Santa Maria Police Department responded to the Azure Apartment Homes, 703 Meehan St., for a report of a suspect armed with a knife who threatened a victim, according to a written statement from the agency.
The suspect was initially seen inside the building but was not located at that time.
Investigating officers provided clothing and suspect description to officers in the area.
At approximately 7:33 p.m., Gang Suppression Team detectives conducted a follow-up check at the location and located the suspect.
When detectives attempted to detain him, the suspect violently resisted and fought with officers, who deployed stun guns while attempting to take him into custody.
Police secured the man in a WRAP restraint designed to immobilize the person and prevent additional injuries to them or police.
One officer sustained injuries during the altercation and was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for evaluation before being released.
Due to the suspect’s recent pattern of violent criminal activity, a bail increase was requested and approved, police said.
The name, age or hometown of the subject were not released as of Saturday
