The Allan Hancock College Foundation has appointed two AHC alumni, Claudia Ortiz and Luis Servin, to its Board of Directors.
In addition to being Hancock graduates, Ortiz and Servin bring backgrounds in community leadership, workforce development, and education advocacy to the foundation.
Ortiz, an area production manager for Mechanics Bank, offers expertise in accounting, human resources, community and corporate relations and strategic planning.
She currently serves on the Mary Buren School Site Council and the Northern Santa Barbara County United Way, and has been involved with the Santa Maria Noontime Kiwanis, Girl Scouts of the Central Coast, and local school PTAs.
A first-generation college graduate, Ortiz said her personal journey fuels her commitment to supporting students.
“As a first-generation college graduate, I experienced firsthand the challenges and rewards of pursuing higher education,” she said.
“Hancock played an important role in my journey, and I am honored to give back to an institution that continues to change lives in our community,” she said.
Servin, a native of Lompoc, is the executive director of the Santa Barbara County Workforce Development Board.
He has experience in advocacy, community relations, innovation, event planning and nonprofit leadership, and currently serves on several regional and statewide committees focused on workforce and education initiatives.
Also a first-generation college graduate Servin said he is passionate about creating opportunities for future students.
“Joining the AHC Foundation Board represents a unique opportunity to support accessible, quality education and advocate for students from diverse backgrounds,” Servin said.
“As a former Hancock student, I believe deeply in the mission of our community colleges and the impact they have on individuals and families,” he said.
Jon Hooten, foundation executive director, said both new trustees will play a key role in advancing the foundation’s work.
“Claudia and Luis each bring a strong commitment to education and a deep understanding of the communities we serve,” Hooten said. “Their leadership and experience will help us continue to expand opportunities for our students and strengthen partnerships across the region.”
The Allan Hancock College Foundation works to secure private support for the college, funding scholarships, programs, and initiatives that help students achieve their educational and career goals.
