One of the people critically injured in the rollover crash Sunday on Highway 135 south of Orcutt has died due to his injuries.

He has been named as Carlos Huerta-Hernandez, 22, of Santa Maria, according to Raquel Zick, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Bureau.

At approximately 4:40 p.m. Sunday, personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire and Vandenberg Space Force Base Fire departments were dispatched for a single-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 135 just north of the South Y area. 

The solo-vehicle crash reportedly involved a Ford truck that rolled over at least once and ejected at least one of the occupants, according to emergency dispatch reports.

A pair of American Medical Response ambulances transported two patients to Marian Regional Medical Center. 

Northbound traffic, on the stretch of road also known as Highway 1, was briefly diverted onto Graciosa Road while emergency crews were at the scene of the crash.

One lane opened about 5:15 p.m., while the second lane reopened shortly after 6 p.m., according to emergency dispatch reports.

California Highway Patrol officers from the Santa Maria area were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A GoFundMe page, “In Memory of Carlos: A Life Full of Light,” has been started to help pay for funeral costs.

“He was full of dreams, love, laughter, and a spirit that could light up any room. Anyone who knew him knew how caring, genuine, and full of life he truly was,” a friend of the family said on the GoFundMe page.

As of Thursday morning, the site had raised $2,345 toward the $20,000 goal.
