A man wanted in connection with multiple felony crimes was taken into custody on Saturday following a standoff with Santa Maria Police Department officers.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. officers responded to the 1000 block Red Bark Road in a northeast Santa Maria neighborhood regarding the wanted suspect, identified as Christian Chavez, 36.
“The suspect barricaded himself inside a residence and refused to comply with officers’ commands,” police said Sunday morning.
Due to the circumstances, the Special Weapons and Tactics Team was activated and utilized specialized resources, including crisis negotiators, tactical personnel, drones, K-9 officers, and an armored rescue vehicle.
“After several hours of negotiations and tactical operations, the suspect was safely taken into custody without injury to officers, or the public,” police said.
Chavez was booked into the Santa Barbara County Northern Branch Jail on the outstanding felony charges.
He remained in the custody on Sunday, with bail set at $100,000.
