A 17-year-old Lompoc resident has been arrested in connection with the death of a 50-year-old Lompoc man found with assault injuries last week.

On Saturday afternoon, officers from the Lompoc Police Department responded for a death investigation in the 400 block of North I Street. 

Officers located a deceased individual with injuries consistent with an assault, Sgt. Scott Morgan said. Police had not released the victim’s name as of Friday.

The preliminary investigation uncovered evidence that led officers to the crime scene on the 400 block of North G Street, Morgan said.

Detectives assumed responsibility for the investigation and, with the assistance of patrol officers, identified a juvenile male as a possible suspect, Morgan added.

“The suspect’s residence was searched, and an extensive amount of evidence was recovered,” Morgan said Friday.

Detectives obtained search warrants and an arrest warrant. 

The 17-year-old, whose name wasn’t released due to his age, was located and taken into police custody. 

“At this time, detectives have not identified a motive,” Morgan said, adding the investigation was ongoing.

The suspect was booked into Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall late Thursday night on suspicion of murder.
