Law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence in Vandenberg Village on Saturday night for a report of an accidental shooting.

A caller reported the incident in the 4400 block of Titan Avenue at 8:15 p.m.

One person received a gunshot wound to the leg after a shotgun was fired accidentally, according to emergency dispatch reports. 

The shooting occurred while a man, allegedly a former law enforcement officer, was showing his son how to use the weapon, according to dispatch reports. 

The shotgun was locked away as a precaution before law enforcement officers showed up to the scene, according to dispatch reports.

The condition of the patient injured in the shooting and other details were not immediately available.
