The California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN) and Community Environmental Council (CEC) will host an event to honor state Sen. Monique Limón’s election as the next State Senate pro Tempore, the most influential leadership role in the California state legislature.

The event will be 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 at CEC’s Environmental Hub, 1219 State St., Santa Barbara.

Limón, who was recently sworn into the pro Tempore position, is a longtime advocate for climate resilience and agriculture, championing state policies and investments that support Central Coast farms, ranches, and communities in adopting innovative solutions to deal with rising costs and threats of wildfires, floods and droughts, CalCAN said.

“Senator Limón gets the myriad challenges farmers and ranchers are facing, and she acts with conviction and urgency to address the rising costs of climate change to communities across California,” said Brian Shobe, CalCAN policy director.

“We are celebrating her rise to the highest position in the State Senate because she is the driven and effective climate leader we need at this moment in our state and nation,” Shobe said.

Attendees can meet fellow producers and advocates, thank Sen. Limón for her leadership, and enjoy locally sourced food and drinks, organizers said.
