A group of activists spoke in support of Palestine and a cease-fire in Gaza on Thursday in the front of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse in Santa Barbara.
Among them was the Rev. David Moore, who called for a cease-fire.
“I believe that Palestine will arise,” Moore said.
The group rallied in support of South Africa’s allegations that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians, at the United Nations’ International Court of Justice.
South Africa has called for a halt to Israeli military operations in Gaza.
“I love so many people in the Republic of South Africa,” said Moore, who has been to South Africa 14 times. “I have a bond with them. I am so proud of the people, and I am proud in this moment of the government.”
The event was organized by Helena Pasquarella, a candidate for the 24th U.S. Congressional District, along with the Central Coast Antiwar Coalition and Code Pink.
Omar Figueredo, a organizer for the Central Coast Antiwar Coalition, acknowledged the people in the crowd for showing support for Palestine.
“You are doing something that even our elected leaders, so-called leaders will not dare to do,” Figueredo said. “To say, ‘I am not blind.'”
About 60 people gathered at the event, including several children. The activists waved Palestinian flags and a group from Los Angeles played drums.
