Adelante Charter School reports its latest state assessment results reflect significant academic strengths, “reinforcing its commitment to bilingual education and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.”

California’s newly released 2025-26 assessment results show 63.31% of Adelante students scored proficient or advanced in mathematics, compared with 38.35% statewide.

Among Adelante’s English learners, 43.4% achieved math proficiency, nearly four times the statewide rate of 11.69%. Notably, all mathematics instruction at Adelante is taught in Spanish.

Additional results highlight the school’s progress:
• English language arts: 52.66% of students scored proficient or advanced.
• English learner progress: 62.2% made progress toward English proficiency, compared with 47% statewide, earning Adelante a blue state indicator.
• Science: 60% of fifth-graders met proficiency standards, compared with 36% statewide.
• Bilingual achievement: Among students reclassified as fluent English proficient, 68.57% scored proficient or advanced in English language arts and 65.72% in mathematics.

“Adelante’s story is a powerful reminder that where a school begins does not determine where it can go,” said school director Javier Bolívar.

The results, he said, reflect the dedication of teachers and staff, strong family partnerships, and a shared belief in every student’s potential.

School Board president Brianna Aguilar said Adelante’s success extends beyond test scores.

“Our success comes from empowering students to become critical thinkers in two languages while maintaining a deep commitment to the arts, music, dance, social justice, and multicultural learning,” she said.

“These results affirm that academic excellence and a culturally rooted education go hand in hand,” she said.

Adelante serves just over 300 students, including 73.4% who are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 37% who are English learners.

Its Spanish-English immersion model begins kindergarten with about 90% of instruction in Spanish, gradually transitioning to a 50/50 model by fifth and sixth grade.

“The school acknowledges that achievement gaps remain and continues working to strengthen outcomes for English learners and other student groups,” school officials said.

“At the same time, its progress reflects a broader commitment to creating a supportive school community where students feel valued and families are genuine partners in education,” they said.

Longtime parent Fabiola Hernandez recalls feeling welcomed when her family joined Adelante. Through translated meetings, childcare, and opportunities for parents to participate in school decisions, families became part of the school’s efforts to move forward.

“Together, administrators, teachers, parents, and children believed ¡Sí se puede!—yes, we can,” Hernandez said. “We created a village to support our children and families. Our results show what is possible when people are welcomed, included, and work together.”

Adelante’s achievements include having recorded zero suspensions for five consecutive years and having earned a green indicator for chronic absenteeism,.

Adelante Charter School is a K–6 Spanish-English dual language immersion charter school serving Santa Barbara’s Eastside community.
