November is National Adopt a Senior Pet Month and Woods Humane Society is celebrating with a Senior Pets Rock promotion, sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, which waives adoption fees for senior pets ages 7 and older all month.
“At Woods, we have a special place in our hearts for senior pets. They are sweet, soulful, and so deserving of a comfortable and loving home,” said Emily L’Heureux, Woods CEO.
“We are grateful to our friends at Hill’s Pet Nutrition for helping us host this month-long adoption event to spread awareness and remove barriers to adoption for our older dogs and cats.” she said.
Senior pets often arrive in need of substantial medical care, L’Heureux said. Once treated, they can be overlooked by adopters due to their age.
Lengths of stay for senior dogs and cats can be two-to-three times longer than that of younger animals.
To help increase awareness about these and other special seniors looking for loving homes, Woods offers these three top reasons why senior pets rock:
1. They’ve been around the block. Often, seniors are already house-trained and have learned to live with humans, making for a smoother transition into a home after adoption.
2. Their wild heydays are behind them. Typically, older dogs and cats don’t need huge amounts of exercise and stimulation. They can often be calmer and gentler than younger pets, and tend to snooze while their humans away.
3. They’re wise and soulful. Senior pets can offer a noticeable measure of maturity and often have so much gratitude for your kindness and companionship.
