Allan Hancock College’s Ann Foxworthy Gallery will showcase the transformative power of art in After the Cut, a new exhibit on display Oct. 19-Dec. 2 at 800 S. College Drive.

Featuring artwork by Raphaele Cohen-Bacry and Juan Manuel Perez Salazar, the exhibit looks at how the simple act of cutting can become a tool for creativity, allowing artists to alter, reconstruct and reimagine familiar materials into something entirely new.

The exhibit is free to view, and an artist talk and reception, also free, will be held in the gallery, 4-6:30 p.m. Oct. 22.

“Through a variety of artistic media, Cohen-Bacry and Perez Salazar use cutting both literally and conceptually to bring together fragments of materials, images and ideas,” organizers said.

“Their works reveal traces of what existed before while inviting viewers to consider how destruction, alteration and reconstruction can lead to new creative possibilities,” they said.

Rather than erasing the past, the artists embrace it as part of the creative process, transforming existing elements into new compositions that challenge viewers to look beyond the finished work and consider how it came to be, the gallery said.
