San Marcos took down Dos Pueblos in a girls golf crosstown rivalry matchup on Wednesday at Glen Annie Golf Club.
The Royals finished with a team score of 228 while the Chargers logged a total mark of 259.
“It was our first league match and we were thrilled with the result,” San Marcos coach Sarah Ashton said. “The girls played well and were very focused.”
Every San Marcos golfer finished under 50 on the par-35 course, led by Riley O’Brien’s score of 42.
“It was great to have all six girls break 50 today,” Ashton said. “I was really impressed with the girls’ consistency on the course today. They have really been playing well lately, it has been fun to watch.”
This impressive performance earned the praise of Dos Pueblos coach Dan Choi.
“We have to give a lot of credit to coach Ashton and the SM golfers,” Choi said. “We had our struggles out there today but their win was more about them putting in a top-notch team performance.”
While the Royals got the team win, Charger Sagarika Manian finished as the medalist after shooting a 39. It was her third straight round in the 30s.
Meanwhile, Charis Dreesmann’s score of 58 was a personal best while Sonia Melkonian picked up her first competitive match par score.
With the win, San Marcos is now a perfect 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play. Dos Pueblos, meanwhile, dropped to 2-3 on the year and 0-1 in Channel League.
