No pets were injured on Thursday when a vehicle drove into the front glass window of Goleta’s Pet House, the store confirmed.

The store carries small pets — such as birds, fish and reptiles — as well as pet supplies for larger animals such as dogs and cats.

A Toyota Corolla hit the front window of the pet store in the Calle Real marketplace just before 7 a.m.

No one was in the store at the time.

The driver, 71, was not injured in the collision, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department confirmed to Noozhawk on Thursday. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

“We are so sad to share that early this morning a vehicle drove into Pet House and destroyed our front counter and many of our fixtures,” a Pet House spokesperson said on social media Thursday night. “We are so relieved that no one was in the store at the time and all of the animals are safe and uninjured.

“Thank you to everyone that has reached out to offer support during this tragic event. We have spent the morning checking on all the animals and cleaning up.”

The store expects to reopen sometime this weekend. It has also paused delivery at this time, but remains open for pick-up.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Raquel Zick said the collision occurred when the driver’s “‘flip flop’ got caught on the pedals while parking in a parking stall in front of the Pet House.”

“The driver was unable to stop the vehicle before it drove through the front door of the closed business. The vehicle came to rest completely within the building,” Zick said.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be a factor, per Zick.
