Allan Hancock College continues to strengthen its role in preparing the region’s future healthcare workforce with a growing range of nursing education opportunities, including a local pathway to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Through a partnership with California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI), students can complete their BSN coursework right on Hancock’s Santa Maria campus.
Designed for students who are completing or have already earned an associate degree in nursing, the program provides seamless advancement in education and career growth.
“This partnership represents a major step forward for our region,” said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “We are creating more opportunities for local students to advance their education and meet the healthcare needs of our community without having to leave the Central Coast.”
The program removes one of the biggest barriers for students: the need to relocate. By offering coursework locally through a hybrid model, students can continue their education while staying connected to their families, jobs, and community.
Healthcare leaders say the program will have a direct impact on patient care across the Central Coast.
“Expanding BSN access right here in Santa Maria is a gamechanger for our region,” said Candice Monge, Chief Nursing Executive for Dignity Health. “At Marian Regional Medical Center, we know that growing talent locally through exactly this kind of academic-practice collaboration strengthens our nursing pipeline, keeps skilled nurses in our community, and ensures our patients receive the highest standard of care.”
The BSN pathway is part of a broader effort by the college to expand bachelor’s degree opportunities in Northern Santa Barbara County and respond to the growing demand for highly skilled nurses.
Healthcare providers increasingly seek bachelor’s-prepared nurses to support improved patient outcomes and leadership in clinical settings.
Hancock’s nursing programs provide a strong foundation for this pathway, offering multiple entry points for students, from vocational nursing to registered nursing.
Together, these programs create a clear, supportive pipeline that prepares students to advance their education and serve their communities.
By connecting hands-on training with opportunities for continued academic advancement, Allan Hancock College is helping ensure that more local students can become highly skilled nurses—educated here and ready to make a difference across the Central Coast.
