Alyssa Marin scored eight points in the fourth quarter, sparking the UC women’s basketball team to erase a seven-point deficit and knock off Cal State Bakersfield, 56-52, in a Big West game Saturday at Bakersfield.
Alexis Tucker, who scored six points in the final frame, led all scorers with 15 points.
UCSB improved to 6-2 in the Big West and 13-5 overall. Bakersfield is 2-6 and 5-11.
Down 45-38 to start the fourth, Marin hit a three pointer and added a layup to tie the game with just over five minutes left. Marin led an 11-point run that flipped the score in UCSB’s favor for good.
Senior Ila Lane was solid for the Gauchos, grabbing a game-high eight rebounds to go along with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Lane hit a crucial layup late to give UCSB a 53-50 lead with under a minute left.
Sophomore Callie Cooper was all over the court, recording a game-high four steals, a team-high six assists, four rebounds, and two points.
The Gauchos shot 45.8 percent from the field, their second most efficient game in Big West conference play this season.
UCSB hosts defending Big West-champion Hawaii on Thursday.
