St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley Church invites community members and their four-legged friends to the annual Blessing of the Animals, 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8 on the church lawn, 901 Nojoqui Ave., Los Olivos.
The event will celebrate the blessing that all animals bring to the lives of their humans and bless them in return.
Blessings will also be offered for photographed pets who are unable to attend. Children are welcome to bring a stuffed animal to be blessed.
Large animals, such as horses, are welcome if they are on a lead. Animals who are “unsociable” may remain in a vehicle or trailer, and the presider will come to them.
Small animals must remain in a container, such as a cage or aquarium. Cats may be on a leash or in a crate.
Humans of all ages and all faiths (or none) are invited to attend, with or without an animal companion.
The event is conducted annually in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi near his feast day of Oct. 4, honoring his love for all creatures, great and small.
