More April showers will fall on Santa Barbara County this week.

Rain will arrive in North County on Monday night and hit the entire county on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

While the system will focus on San Luis Obispo County and cause minimal impacts, rainfall totals will be one-half to 1 inch of rain for the Central Coast and much less as the system moves into Ventura and Los Angeles counties Tuesday afternoon.

“Most of the rain will taper off by Tuesday late afternoon or evening,” according to the forecast.

However, interior areas of San Luis Obispo County and northeastern mountains of Northern Santa Barbara County may see some light showers through Wednesday morning with snow levels expected around 5,000 feet. Rain/snow amounts would be minimal with forecasters referring to it as a dusting of snow.

Santa Barbara County has seen above normal rainfall totals this season. Cachuma Dam’s total of more than 32 inches is 172% of normal while San Marcos Pass saw nearly 50 inches of rain for 150% of normal, according to the Santa Barbara County Flood Control District.

Santa Barbara’s 25.53 inches of rain since Sept. 1 is 146% of normal while Santa Maria received 14.62 inches, 116% of normal.

After the system moves on, most areas will be experiencing gusty west to northwest winds, generally 20-35 mph. Some gusts as high as 40-50 mph may occur in the interior areas and may prompt issuance of wind advisories, according to the forecast.
