Tony Marzio (a.k.a. Tony the Tailor) of Santa Barbara passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026 at his sister’s home in San Luis Obispo. He was born Feb. 19, 1949.

Tony is preceded in death by his mother Lucia Petra Marzio and father Louis Marzio, both of Lompoc.

He is survived by two sons Michael Bowdre Marzio (Tareh) and Robert Louis Marzio (Carolyn); grandson Eddie Marzio; siblings Kathy Marzio Beaton, Michael L. Marzio, Gary A.Marzio, Robert J. Marzio, Tina M. Marzio, Steven C. Marzio, David R. Marzio and Bonnie J. Marzio (Cameron Boyne); and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Born in Tucson Arizona, Tony graduated from Cabrillo Senior High School Class of 1967 in Lompoc, California, as his father was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

He graduated from Allan Hancock College BA (PCPA), and attended Fresno State College, studying stage design, color design and dance production. He went on to study folk dance in Europe, and continued to dance, especially Zydeco and contra dance, for his entire life.

Tony has many friends from his years of dancing starting at East Beach, the Greek Festival, the Cabrillo Recreation Center, and to traveling for dance experiences all over California. A favorite event was Gator by Bay in San Diego.

Tony built his own successful business as a tailor in Santa Barbara, starting as a master leather craftsman. Later, his shop on Mission Street was well known for his custom alterations specializing in gowns and suits and working with many local shops and clients.

He was creative, precise and professional in all his 50 years of work. Tony leaves behind many wonderful clients and coworkers who became family to him.

He was a true renaissance man, with many interests including skating, skiing, martial arts, photography, dance, music, fashion and movies.

Always a sharp dresser, mainly in all black, Tony often accessorized his look with a bright hat, frequently red, and enjoyed compliments constantly on his manner and dress.

A small Celebration of Life will be held in Santa Barbara on July 10. Donations in Tony’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Association or Hospice.

Tony had a beautiful heart and soul. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
