Arthur Jan Kroot

Arthur Jan Kroot died June 23, 2026 at the age of 80 in Columbus, Indiana, where he lived and worked most of his life.

He was a “tale of two cities” spending half a month running the Kroot Corp. in Columbus and half a month living his dream life in Santa Barbara.

An avid sailor, Art loved his time at the harbor working to maintain his sailboat the Teak Lady. He had many harbor friends who helped him work on and sail his boat.

When he wasn’t boating he spent time riding his bike, gardening, and creating incredibly beautiful Japanese flower arrangements. Art held several master’s certificates in the art of ikebana.

In Columbus, Art was well known for flying his hot air balloon. He loved sailing in the sky as much as on the water.

Art had many friends in both cities. Here, he served as president of the Santa Barbara Jewish Federation and was an active supporter of Congregation B’nai Brith, as well as the Center for Successful Aging.

Art was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bobbi. He is survived by his daughter Robin Kroot; son Josh Kroot (Rachel); and the loves of his life, his three grandchildren Brandon, Aaron and Michelle.

A service for Art will take place in Columbus.
