Sofia Orozco of San Marcos is the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 girls soccer Player of the Year.

The senior forward’s relentless pressure on defenses and her solid finishing helped the Royals turn the program around and lead it to the CIF title.

Orozco put San Marcos in the title match with an overtime goal against South Pasadena in the semifinals.

Senior center back Paige Ingram and junior midfielder Becca Rodriguez join Orozco on the 22-player All-CIF team.

Brian “Ziggy” Ziegenhagen was named Coach of the Year. He took a team that won just three games the year before and guided it to unbeaten Channel League championship and the first CIF title since 2006.

Vom Steeg Twins Named All-CIF in Div. 2

San Marcos seniors and twin brothers Caden and Jared Vom Steeg were named to the All-CIF-SS Division 2 boys soccer team.

The brothers led the Royals to their first Channel League title since 2002 and the second round of the playoffs. Their ball control, savvy and leadership raised the level play on the squad.

The Vom Steegs will continue their careers at UCSB, where they’ll play for their father, Tim Vom Steeg.

Dunn Puts 3 Players on Div. 5 Team

Dunn School seniors Rene Pacheco and Christian Jimenez and junior Colin James were named  to the All-CIF Division 5 boys team. 

Pacheco, a midfielder, will join the Vom Steeg twins at UCSB.
