The Santa Maria Philharmonic invites community members to the 2024-25 season’s third concert, titled Stylistic Impressions, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at Grace Baptist Church, 605 E. McCoy Lane, Santa Maria.
In an evening inspired by the artistic movement of impressionism, the concert, under the direction of Maestro Michael Nowak, will feature selections from composers Claude Debussy, Sergei Prokofiev and George Gershwin.
Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” is a cornerstone of musical impressionism, with the French composer creating pastoral images and dynamic feelings expressed through orchestral sound, according to the Santa Maria Philharmonic.
Russian composer Prokofiev explores humor and the absurd in the satirical “Lt. Kije Suite.”
The concert concludes with a performance of Gershwin’s jazzy and expressive “Concerto in F,” with the piano solo performed by W. Terrence Spiller, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo piano professor and performer.
