Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation (SBTHP) will screen the film “Nurse Unseen,” 6 p.m. Friday, July 12 at the Alhecama Theatre, 215A Canon Perdido St., Santa Barbara.
The film, which is part of the SBTHP Asian American Film Series (AAFS), explores the little-known history and humanity of the unsung Filipino nurses risking their lives on the frontlines while facing a resurgence of anti-Asian hate in the streets.
“Nurse Unseen” unearths the colonial ties between the Philippines and the United States that have led to Filipino nurses becoming the unknown backbone of the U.S. and global healthcare systems, SBTHP said.
There will be a Q&A with Michele Josue, director/producer/editor, following the movie.
AAFS movies are free to attend for SBTHP members, with a suggested $5 donation for non-members. Seating is first come, first served.
The film series is made possible by the support of the George H. Griffiths and
Olive J. Griffiths Charitable Foundation.
