Through its Community Friends Program, Assistance League of Santa Barbara donated multiple items to help make Heath House a home.
The residence for seven recently unhoused women has opened in Santa Barbara under the auspices of Peoples Self Help Housing.
The house was newly renovated but it was bare. With help from the Assistance League of Santa Barbara members and the organization’s Thrift Shop, things have changed.
Now each bedroom has a framed, colorful painting on the wall, and the kitchen is fully outfitted. The women have dishes, flatware, coffee machines, a toaster, pots and pans, and even a popcorn popper.
Area rugs throughout the house are an added bonus.
With a capacity of seven beds, Heath House will provide permanent, affordable housing to formerly homeless women. Supportive services, including job training, case management, counseling, and education programs will be offered.
Along with its auxiliaries, Las Aletas and Assisteens, the Assistance League of Santa Barbara’s 350 members volunteer over 50,000 hours a year to improve the lives of residents in our community.
The Assistance League Thrift Shop, located at 1259 Veronica Springs Road, is the major source of funding for these programs. www.assistanceleaguesb.org.
