Athena Saragoza poured in a season-high 32 points on Friday night but Santa Barbara High’s rally fell short in a 61-54 loss to Buena at the Ventura girls basketball tournament.

Buena took a 30-20 halftime lead, then the Dons won the third quarter 24-17 to pull within three (47-44) heading into the fourth period.

Saragoza, a sophomore guard, made 12-of-30 from the field, including 4-13 on 3’s, and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Briana Trujillo and Caia Trimble added six points apiece for the Dons, who shot 33% from the field and 6-22 on 3’s. They only made 53.3% of their free throws (8-15).

Sophomore Jaeda Spence had 10 rebounds and Katrina Regalado pulled down eight.
