Jarrell Jackman
Jarrell Jackman is the former executive director of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation. After receiving his Ph.D. in history from UC Santa Barbara, he taught for eight years in Europe and Washington, D.C., then spent 35 years in charge of rebuilding El Presidio de Santa Bárbara. He has authored and edited multiple books, including The Muses Flee Hitler and, most recently, Santa Barbara’s Royal Presidio: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of Spain’s Last Presidio. He was honored as a knight of the Royal Order of Isabel la Católica by Spain’s King Felipe VI, named an honorary state park ranger by the California State Park Rangers Association and received the Golden Bear Award from the California State Parks Commission in recognition for his work on the Presidio.
