Authorities have released the name of the pedestrian who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Sunday afternoon on the railroad tracks near Gaviota.
The victim was William Pattenaude, 67, of Goleta, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau.
Pattenaude was killed shortly after 1 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound Coast Starlight train, about a mile east of Mariposa Reina. He was declared dead at the scene,
Train traffic in the area was stopped for a time after the incident.
The circumstance of the death remained under investigation.
