Authorities have released the name of a man whose body was discovered near a vehicle on Santa Rosa Road, east of Lompoc last week.

The deceased was identified as Maurilio Manzano Gonzalez, 34, of Santa Maria, according to Kelly Hoover, a spokewoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.

A passerby reported the body lying near a vehicle on the 5600 block of Santa Rosa Road at about 8:45 a.m. Friday.

“Sheriff’s detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, which are considered suspicious,” Hoover said. “Due to the active investigation, no additional information is being released at this time.”

The roadway was closed for several hours while investigators responded to the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
