The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the man killed Thursday evening in a suspected DUI collision on Highway 154 above Santa Barbara.
The victim was Cole DeBortoli, 21, of Santa Barbara, according Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer.
DeBortoli was the right-front passenger in a Mazda 3 that collided with a Toyota 4-Runner at about 6 p.m. Thursday on Highway 154, roughly a mile downhill from Painted Cave Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
DeBortoli suffered critical injuries and died later at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
The driver of the Mazda — Brian Watana Dul, 22, of Goleta — suffered moderate injuries in the crash, and also was taken to Cottage Hospital.
He subsequently was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Two people in the 4-runner sustained minor injuries.
