Authorities on Tuesday released the names of the three people killed Saturday in a multi-vehicle collision in Isla Vista.
The victims were Jose Luis Hernandez, 28, and Sebastian Gil, 20, both of Santa Barbara, and Daniel Razo, 20, of Yorba Linda, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau.
The crash, in which five other people were seriously injured, occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday at El Colegio Road and Stadium Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Three vehicles were involved in the collision, and one reportedly was driving recklessly and ran a red light, the CHP said.
Heavy extrication was required to free some of the victims from the wreckage, Capt. Daniel Bertucelli of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department told Noozhawk.
Two patients suffered major injuries and three had moderate injuries, Bertucelli said. Their names have not been released.
The collision is under investigation by the UCSB Police Department, which did not respond Tuesday to requests for details about the crash.
