Cate’s Babacar Pouye started his senior year with a bang, scoring 34 points and grabbing 28 rebounds, 13 on the offensive boards, to power the Rams to a 51-33 boys basketball win over Dunn in a season and league opener on Thursday night at Cate.

“Babacar’s 28 boards is the most rebounds I have seen in a game from a player in my eight-year tenure at Cate,” said coach Andy Gil. “Most impressed with his poise and growing into a senior leader and ability to alter shots.”

The Rams played great defense in the first half, holding Dunn to nine points.

“Incredible team effort and a great start to the season allowing our young guys to get an understanding of the pace and speed of a varsity game,” said Gil. “Great defense by sophomore Jacob Gabbay, freshman Josh Butler, freshman Chase Meyer, sophomore Peter Lehman, senior Marley Joseph and senior Jack Higgins. “

Cate (1-0) doesn’t play again until Dec. 30 at the Nordhoff Invitational.
