Dos Pueblos baseball captured a share of the Channel League championship with a 10-5 victory over Oxnard High on Friday in Oxnard.

The Chargers and San Marcos Royals each finished the regular season with a 10-4 record against league opponents, resulting in a shared league title. It is Dos Pueblos’ first since the 2018 season.

Dos Pueblos opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first on an RBI single by Marcus Carbajal, followed by a two-run base hit off the bat of Spencer Holtz.

The Yellow Jackets then swung back with five runs across the next two innings, but the Chargers trimmed the deficit to 5-4 in the third when Holtz drove in another run on a groundout.

After a scoreless fourth, Dos Pueblos jumped back out in front with two runs on a pair of Oxnard errors to bring the score to 6-5.

The Yellow Jacket’s five early runs were all unearned, and Dos Pueblos reliever Max Cruse came into the game and fired four shutout frames while allowing just one hit to keep the damage at that.

The Chargers continued to add insurance runs in the late stages as Matti Di Maggio launched a solo homer in the sixth, while Esteban Garcia and Jameson Barth each drove in runs in the seventh to extend the lead to 10-5.

Nick Salcido finished off the win with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning.

Taylor Young and Marcus Carbajal paced the Dos Pueblos offense as they each went 3-for-4, with Young scoring twice and Carbajal crossing home plate three times. Holtz led the team with three RBI.

Carpiteria High 7, Channel Islands 6

The Warriors rounded out their Citrus Coast League schedule with a tight win over Channel Islands on Friday at John Calderwood Field.

“We sure did have to work our way through some bad luck and miscues,” Carpinteria High head coach Pat Cooney said. “This team has shown resilience through bad luck, bad plays, tricky calls and good opponents. Channel Islands kept the pressure on.”

It was a back-and-forth affair throughout, as Channel Islands took an early lead before a two-run homer by Dallas Bartholic in the third inning put Carpinteria in front 4-2.

Channel Islands then responded with four unanswered runs before the Warriors took the lead for good on an RBI single by Gabe Chung to bring in Brayden Real.

Jonah Hernandez got the start for Carpinteria and allowed two earned runs while striking out three in four innings. Gabe Martinez shut down the Channel Islands offense in relief, surrendering just two hits in three shutout frames.

Bartholic paced the Warrior offense with three hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Hernandez and Micah Smith each tallied two hits as well, while Hernandez scored twice.

“Bounce back performances came from Gabe Martinez, who struggled on defense early but came in and got the win on the mound, and Jonah Hernandez, who didn’t have a great day on the mound but shined on defense and had a solid day at the plate,” Cooney said.

“It was a nice cap to the CCL season. Eight wins against a really balanced league is nothing to shake a stick at.  We will look forward to the entire playoff experience.”

The Warriors (16-5, 8-4 CCL) will celebrate their Senior Day against Villanova Prep on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Carpinteria.
