San Marcos baseball remained atop the Channel League standings with a 9-2 win over Pacifica on Wednesday in Oxnard.
The Royals (15-9, 9-2 Channel League) will look to complete the season sweep of the fourth-place Tritons (10-10, 6-5 CL) on Friday at Joe Mueller Field.
Quinn Melton continued his power surge for the San Marcos offense, blasting a home run for the third straight contest. Meanwhile, Miles Herbert and Patrick Foster tallied three and two hits, respectively.
On the mound, David Burkholder twirled five strong innings and Herbert came in to slam the door on Pacifica.
San Marcos now holds a two-game lead over Dos Pueblos and Rio Mesa, who are tied for second place.
Carpinteria High 3, Malibu 0
Dallas Bartholic tossed a complete-game shutout to power the Warriors to a league win over Malibu on Wednesday at John Calderwood Field in Carpinteria.
Carpinteria plated a pair of runs in the first on a two-run base knock off the bat of Brayden Real. The third and final run of the day came on an RBI single by Micah Smith.
On the bump, Bartholic scattered four hits and two walks while striking out six in his seven shutout frames of work.
“Despite the score, this one never felt comfortable. Malibu is capable and confident and we let them hang around,” Carpinteria High head coach Pat Cooney said. “Dallas and Micah were a good battery but they had to grind to get through each inning. The defense played really well behind them.
“The Sharks had runners in scoring position in four innings, but each time we found an escape. The best news is that the seniors are playing their best baseball as the season progresses. We will need them down the stretch.”
The Warriors (13-5, 5-4 Citrus Coast League) will be on the road against Malibu on Friday.
