A three-run sixth inning for Cabrillo was the key piece of a comeback effort to defeat Santa Ynez Friday, 9-6.
The Pirates led 6-0 after two innings, but Cabrillo stormed back with a five-run third to get back in the game and then overtook Santa Ynez.
“They battled and put the ball in play,” Santa Ynez coach Warren Dickey said. “We lost our mental focus and allowed it to effect our play.”
Owen Hunt and Caleb Cassidy had two hits each for the Pirates.
Santa Ynez is now 11-8 overall and 4-5 in Channel League play.
Lompoc 4, Santa Barbara 3
Santa Barbara got behind and couldn’t recover in a 4-3 Channel League loss to Lompoc Friday.
Lompoc led off the scoring with an RBI single by Jacob Escobedo in the first inning.
Santa Barbara’s Michael Firestone had an RBI double, and Vince Gamberdella, and Dane Dawson also got hits for the Dons.
Juan Perez started on the mound for Santa Barbara, giving up three hits and three runs in three innings while striking out three. Tucker Dilbeck threw three innings in relief.
Brandon Brickey started for Lompoc, surrendered two runs on three hits over 4.2 innings, striking out four and walking one.
Carpinteria 6, Fillmore 2
Carpinteria snapped a six-game skid with a 6-2 Citrus Coast League win over visiting Fillmore on Friday.
Warrior sophomore right-hander Shane Goodmanson picked up his first varsity win, giving up eight hits and two runs over seven innings, walking one and striking out three.
Erich Goebel and Talon Trumble had two hits apiece for Carpinteria, as Goebel doubled, tripled, and scored twice while Trumble doubled, scored and had an RBI.
Zach Mata and Isaac Flores played key roles in the five-run third inning, each with two-out RBI hits. Hunter Garcia and Oscar Velazquez each drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
“Really happy for the group, as they continued to grind through the skid with an incredibly positive attitude,” Carpinteria coach Patrick Cooney said. “Every player on the squad just continues to do the right thing all the time.
“Goodmanson and catcher Diego Nieves worked really well together. Nieves has the experience to call a solid game and Goodmanson trusts him. The tempo of the game was really fast so the defense was ready and played well.”
The Warriors are now 4-7-2 overall and 3-5-1 in CCL play. They play a two-game series against league-leading Santa Paula next week.
