“Riley Green and Lily Blankenhorn played one of their best matches of the year, taking down the No. 1 Ventura pair in 2 straight sets,” Royals coach Tina Brown said.

“We anticipate an exciting battle versus Santa Barbara tomorrow at West Beach.”

Providence 3, Bishop Diego 2

The Providence girls won a tightly contested match against Bishop Diego at West Beach Tuesday.

“I am proud of how the girls battled today in the windy conditions against a steady Bishop Diego team,” Providence coach Chris Elwood said.

The Patriots’ No. 1 team of Jane Krautmann and Avala Elwood beat Bishop Diego’s pair of Sage Thorne-Thomsen and Emma Coglizer, and it was the No. 2 Providence team of Jacklyn Pryko and Olivia Leflang winning a three-set 21-19, 13-21, 15-12 match that “proved to be the key to our victory” Elwood said.

“Our last point came at No. 5 with first-time starters Ava Wagner/Rosie Murren-Doherty playing the best I’ve seen them play. They were fired up and brought great energy to their footwork.

“Overall, our team showed some maturity today, and an improved understanding of how to play in windy conditions — even our losses at #3 and #4 were closely contested matches.”

The Patriots improve to 3-0 on the season. They travel to Ventura to take on Foothill Technology on Thursday.
