A bear was reportedly hit by a vehicle on Highway 101 in Summerland Tuesday night.

The bear was reportedly struck by a black Range Rover in the southbound fast lane around 9:36 p.m. near the Padaro Lane off ramp, according to Officer Jonathan Gutierrez of the Santa Barbara California Highway Patrol.

As of now it’s unclear if this was the same bear that was seen last week wandering around Goleta and UC Santa Barbara.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife were working with UCPD to capture the bear on Friday but no sightings have been reported since then.

Gutierrez said a tow truck was called in for the vehicle and Caltrans was called to remove the bear from the highway after CHP was unable to reach the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

No injuries from the driver or passengers were reported.
