For many, the month of February may bring about thoughts of love and romance, but for those who have survived domestic violence, this time of year can stir up feelings of abandonment and trauma.

“It is not uncommon for survivors to feel scared and uncertain towards the beginning of the year when much of their resources have been drained after the holidays,” said Veronica Cubillo, director of Programs and Client Services at Domestic Violence Solutions for Santa Barbara County.

“On top of that, many are still processing psychological and emotional scars, which can be heightened around this time,” she said.

To support survivors of domestic violence, TropiCali Beauty Boutique in Santa Barbara is hosting an Empowered for Success work wardrobe and self-care drive, throughout February.

“We want to help survivors feel empowered and beautiful inside and out, no matter their circumstance,” said Michelle Davis, owner of TropiCali Beauty Boutique in Santa Barbara. “To receive something a little extra special that they may not normally purchase for themselves.”

“Sometimes seemingly small gestures, like donating accessories or skincare products, go a long way to help survivors rebuild their confidence and self-esteem and we are appreciative of TropiCali for hosting this drive,” Cubillo said.

During February, TropiCali will donate 5% of sales of select items to DVS. The community is also invited to participate by bringing in a donation of new items such as women’s socks, notebooks/planners, tote bags, and skincare products, and TropiCali will match it with a donation of an essential item for survivors.

TropiCali will also promote an Outfit of the Week on their Instagram @tropicalibeautyboutique benefiting dv survivors and their journey to a life of confidence and safety.

TropiCali Beauty Boutique is at 34 W. Calle Laureles in Santa Barbara. Items can be dropped off during business hours, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.
